Matti studied Materials Science at Tampere University of Technology (nowadays known as Tampere University). His foundry-related career already began during these studies at the Foundry Institute (Valimoinstituutti) in Tampere. During those 10 years, he worked with casting design, simulation and practical foundry tasks of both ferrous and non-ferrous alloys.

After the years at the Foundry Institute, he continued working in the field of casting design and optimization at Valmet Valkeakoski foundry, dealing with stainless and wear resistant cast steel production.
In 2023, he moved to the field of non-ferrous alloys as a CEO of a diecasting foundry, Novacast. With this varied background in mind, he aims to promote the actions in networking and science in the project, both from the side of non-ferrous castings and the ferrous side as well.
