Giuliano Angella

After graduating in Physics at the University of Bologna in 1995, he was employed in the main Italian multinational company that builds thermo-electrical plants, Ansaldo Energia S.p.A. In 1998 he went to the University of Sheffield in UK for achieving the Philosophical Doctor degree in Materials Engineering. Since 2001 he has been employed in the research institute CNR-IENI (nowadays CNR-ICMATE), and now he is senior researcher working on mechanical and microstructure characterization of metal alloys for industrial applications. In November 2009 he was visiting researcher in Swinburne University of Technology, Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology, Melbourne, Australia and in June 2014 at The University of Sheffield, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Sheffield, UK. Since 2018 he has been head of the Milan branch of the CNR-ICMATE Institute.

From scientific collaborations with some of the main Italian metallurgical companies, he has dedicated his recent research activity to the development of constitutive equations and correlations between production-microstructure-properties of conventional and advanced cast irons, such as high silicon cast irons, and advanced cast irons produced with heat treatments such as Austempered Ductile Irons (ADI) and Isothermed Ductile Irons (IDI). He attended some of the main international metallurgy and foundry congresses, and was member of the scientific committee of the 5th International Conference of Thermo-Mechanical Processing (TMP2016), Milano, October 2016, and also co-organizer of thematic symposia in EUROMAT 2017 and 2019. In 2023 he organized the symposium B8: “Advanced Cast Irons” in EUROMAT 2023 held in Frankfurt, Germany. He regularly attends the annual European Cast Iron (ECI) meetings.
