About project
Networking for advancing excellence and capacity in light-weight castings for Foundry 4.0 in Poland – NetCastPL4.0 aims to enhance excellence and innovation capacity at AGH University in the field of sustainable lightweight castings and to engage Poland in pan-European collaborative efforts on this topic twinning with CNR and AALTO University.
The overarching objective of NetCastPL4.0 is to establish a research and innovation collaboration between AGH University of Krakow (Poland), the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (Italy) and Aalto University (Finland) in order to significantly advance scientific excellence, technological capacity, Open Science best practices, and the international reputation of AGH University in lightweight castings sustainability.
The project targets high-quality iron and Al-Cu alloys for the GREEN FOUNDRY CHALLENGE in Poland, with a view of addressing the research and innovation gap and imbalance within Europe. By enlarging the European partnership and by stablishing a collaborative programme with state representatives, local agencies, research centres, universities, industry and citizen associations, AGH aims at nucleating a Networking Pole for Castings Foundry Innovation and Sustainability to engage Polish foundries, stakeholders and citizens in a participatory approach to support development of casting foundries with reduced CO2 footprint, increasing awareness and applying European Green Deal principles to save our environment and contribute to citizens’ health, wellbeing and prosperity.
The collaboration and Networking Pole that will be created around AGH University and the exchange of knowledge among AGH University, partners, Polish foundries and SMEs, research units and policy stakeholders will lead to greening the casting foundry as well developing sustainable lightweight castings products.

The project duration is three years, from May 1, 2024, to April 30, 2027.
