Dr. Kalle Jalava works at Aalto University, Department of Mechanical Engineering in the School of Engineering. He has a Master’s and Doctor of Science degrees in the field of Mechanical Engineering, with specializations in Foundry Technology and Engineering Materials. After his dissertation regarding properties of cast irons, he has worked as a laboratory manager with responsibilities in foundry, welding, and heat treatment laboratories, supporting educational courses and research projects, whilst doing personal research and being part of project teams in these fields. His research interests encompass moulding processes and shaping methods, metallurgy and materials, and how the future of those can be developed to be more sustainable. He has also been heavily involved in teaching activities on the topics, both in university and professional settings. Outside of university education, he has been involved in various training/course activities through Adult Education in the topics of casting design and metallurgy, among others.
