Magdalena Kawalec

Magdalena Kawalec, born on 19 April 1978 in Olkusz, is an academic and researcher at the Foundry Department of the AGH University in Krakow, Poland. She holds a Habilitation in Materials Engineering (2020), a Ph.D. in Foundry Engineering (2007) and a Master’s Degree in Metallurgy with a specialisation in Environmental Protection (2002) from the same institution.

Magdalena Kawalec’s significant scientific achievement is documented in her monograph entitled “Shaping the structure of thin-walled castings from high-quality iron with vermicular graphite precipitates”. Her PhD thesis was on “The role of vanadium in shaping the structure and properties of vanadium cast iron”.

Since 2004, Magdalena has been actively involved in various roles in the Foundry Department, progressing to the position of Professor in 2020. She has a strong interest in alloyed cast iron, especially high vanadium iron, anisotropic metal matrix composites, spheroidisation of carbides and synthesis of nanoscale particles in ductile iron. Impact of cooling rates on the structure and mechanical properties of ductile iron, vermicular iron, and thermal stability of ADI castings, structure homogeneity of casting alloy.

Magdalena Kawalec’s commitment to advancing the field of foundry engineering is evident in her research, teaching and leadership as Vice Dean for Education at the Foundry Department of AGH University from 2020 to 2024.
