On 28 March 2025, the NetCastPL4.0 project took part in the third edition of the National Materials Engineering Day (ODIM 2025)
The event, aimed at promoting materials engineering among primary and secondary school students, was held this year under the theme “Smart Materials”. The leading concept focused on the role of advanced materials in the development of innovative technologies and their importance for modern industry.
ODIM 2025 brought together over 20 research institutes and universities from across Poland, including the AGH University of Kraków, which welcomed more than 400 students participating in workshops, lectures and interactive demonstrations.
As part of the six demonstrations organised at the Faculty of Foundry Engineering at AGH, one was delivered by members of the NetCastPL4.0 project. The presentation entitled “The Spoon that Disappears in Tea – a Demonstration of Low-Melting Alloys” was conducted by Jan Marosz, MSc Eng., and Adrian Świątkowski, MSc Eng. During the session, participants were introduced to the properties of low-melting alloys and the challenges associated with the production of thin-walled and lightweight castings.
In addition, visitors to the Faculty of Foundry Engineering were invited to take part in a quiz covering modern solutions applied in the sustainable development of Foundry 4.0.
One of the most distinctive features of ODIM is the attempt to establish Polish records. In this edition, participants took part in an attempt to break the record for “the largest number of people solving crosswords simultaneously”, organised to mark the 100th anniversary of the first crossword published in the Polish press.
With interest in the event continuing to grow each year, the NetCastPL4.0 project has already confirmed its participation in the next edition, where it plans to deliver not one, but two demonstrations.
